Where does a Canton weekend go once the park events stop? This year the question came up sooner than planned. First Friday ended its season on October 2 with On the Border playing Cannon Park and East Main Street. Eight days later, the city cancelled the 2026 Multicultural Festival at Harmon Park because the forecast called for severe weather on Saturday, October 10.
The city did not reschedule it. The notice thanks sponsors Georgia Power and Tutton Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram of Jasper and closes with "we hope to see you there next year." That was the last big outdoor event on the city's fall list. Everything confirmed between now and Thanksgiving happens at one of two addresses with permanent walls and a set schedule: the Historic Canton Theatre at 171 E Main St and The Mill on Etowah at 225 Reformation Pkwy. Their calendars barely overlap. Lined up side by side, they give Canton something to do almost every week until the holidays.
The city calendar's last outdoor date
Free outdoor events depend on the weather, and city organizers have little room to work around it. The Multicultural Festival was planned as a 4 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday with food tastings from countries around the world, traditional performances, and interactive demonstrations. The cancellation notice explains that "because this is an outdoor event," the forecast ruled out a safe event.
The Canton Farmers Market finished its Saturday season at Brown Park on August 29. The market has said fall night markets are coming, but its page still lists the 2026 "Shopping By Lantern Light" details as forthcoming. That leaves two venues carrying the confirmed fall schedule, and they split the week cleanly.
Downtown gets the weeknights
From now through October, the theatre's posted schedule mostly runs Tuesday through Friday. Here is the full Canton Theatre lineup through November:
| Date | Day | Show | Time |
|---|---|---|---|
| Oct. 13 | Tuesday | Moms Unhinged, standup comedy | 7 to 9 p.m. |
| Oct. 16 | Friday | Canton City Limits, HEADLINER Concert | 7 to 9 p.m. |
| Oct. 21 | Wednesday | All Call Dance Class | 7 to 8 p.m. |
| Oct. 23 | Friday | Halloween Movie: The Shining | 7 to 9 p.m. |
| Oct. 28 | Wednesday | Canton City Limits: Storyteller Night | 7 to 9 p.m. |
| Nov. 14 | Saturday | Trial by Fire: Journey Tribute Band | 7 to 9 p.m. |
| Nov. 21 | Saturday | Jeremy presents: Grunge Unplugged with Strings | 8 to 10 p.m. |
Two things stand out. Canton City Limits appears twice in October, first as a headliner concert and then as a storyteller night, so the theatre has a recurring local series to replace the music First Friday brought to Cannon Park. The October shows also sit on weeknights and Fridays. None of them falls on the Saturday or Sunday of October 24 and 25.
That gap matches the Mill's biggest weekend exactly. For dinner before a show, Flatlands Bourbon & Bayou serves Cajun food on East Main Street, a short walk from the theatre.
The river gets the weekends
The Mill on Etowah's fall dates fall on Saturdays and Sundays, and they get bigger closer to Thanksgiving:
- Oct. 24 and 25: The 3rd Annual Jack O' Lantern Jamboree is free and runs noon to 8 p.m. Saturday and noon to 7 p.m. Sunday. It includes trick-or-treating throughout the festival, Scream on the Green outdoor movie nights, live music, a DJ, roaming Halloween characters, local vendors, and a pet-friendly setup.
- Nov. 7: The Fall Plant Festival is on the Mill's calendar. No hours have been posted.
- Nov. 14: The Makers Market runs 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. inside the Shoppes at The Mill, near Sweety's and Suds & Bottles.
- Nov. 23: Rink on the River opens for its sixth season of ice skating, with skating listed through January 24.
- Nov. 27 and 28: The 6th annual Christmas at The Mill runs 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. both days. The tree lighting program is Saturday, November 28 at 6 p.m., with a performance by Joe Gransden and Santa on hand for the lighting.
Halloween week lines up neatly. The Shining plays downtown on Friday, October 23, and the Jamboree starts at noon the next day. Halloween falls on a Saturday this year, but the Mill's trick-or-treating comes a week earlier, during the Jamboree. The research turned up no confirmed 2026 downtown trick-or-treat event.
In November the two venues finally share a day. On Saturday, November 14, the Makers Market wraps up at 4 p.m. at the Mill and Trial by Fire starts at 7 p.m. on East Main, so both fit on the same calendar. Christmas at The Mill is planned around the long holiday weekend. Its organizers list more than 85 vendor booths, ice skating, photos with Santa, and football on a big screen.
What keeps the Mill busy between events
The Mill can host this many weekends because it has permanent tenants. The current hours page lists Reformation Brewery, Whitetail Coffee, Fermented Wine Boutique, Giggle Monsters Craft Donuts, Sweet Joy Ice Cream, Nava Taqueria, and Magnolia Villa under food and drink. On the retail side it lists Cotton Mill Exchange, Nomadic Flow Outfitters, Mayberry at The Mill's Photo Depot, and the Shoppes at The Mill, which include Be Brand, Whole Soul, Flower Shoppe, M&M Mercantile, and Alpine Leather.
The tenant list is still growing. The Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce announced Bully Run, a smashburger concept, for Suite 300 in early 2026. Bully Run's own site now lists its location at the Mill. The Mill's food page says The Blend Nutrition Bar is opening in October 2026 and lists Little Alley Steak as coming soon. Neither page gives a confirmed opening date. The Mill's directory pages also disagree in places, so check that a spot is open before planning a meal around it.
For a weekend visitor, the tenant list matters as much as the event list. On a Jamboree Saturday or during Christmas at The Mill, a brewery, a coffee bar, a taqueria, and a donut shop are all open on site, and the same places are open on ordinary weekends between events.
What the city hasn't posted yet
Canton's own holiday calendar is still mostly blank. Here is what was still missing as of October 10:
- Downtown Canton Tree Lighting: The event page still describes the 2025 lighting at Cannon Park. No 2026 date has been posted.
- Christmas in Canton, Merry Market and the Christmas Parade: The city's holiday roundup gives December dates without a year and uses last season's graphic, so 2026 dates are unconfirmed.
- Shopping By Lantern Light: The farmers market says details for its 2026 fall evening market are coming.
That makes the Mill's November 28 tree lighting the only confirmed holiday lighting in Canton for now. Once the city posts its dates, downtown's holiday events will likely fill in more of December.
The city's longer-term plans add more permanent outdoor space. A February 2026 city update said site work had started on Canton's first South Canton park, off Marietta Highway, and projected an opening by spring 2027. Planned features include an amphitheater, a pavilion with restrooms, a multi-level accessible playground, a tree skywalk, and separate dog areas for large and small dogs. That timeline comes from the February update and may have changed since.
